POP ART

ANDY WARHOL

Was it really art or a joke? Was it beautiful or ugly? What was Warhol trying to say by painting an everyday image? Why was he painting a product, the kind sold in shops? And what was he trying to say by painting the same image again and again?

Warhol didn’t answer these questions. He said, “ If you want to know all about Andy Warhol, just look at the surface. There’s nothing benid it.”
We have studied the silk-screen process discovered by Warhol.
This process means that you can make dozens of the same images again and again. “The silk-screen process captivates me”, Andy said.  He could take every day pictures and make as many copies as he wanted. He worked day and night, printing copy after copy.

Warhol used this technique to make paintings of Superman, Popeye, dollar notes and CocaCola bottles. Then, he painted photographs of famous stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe

We have been working with the most well known image, Marilyn Monroe which you can appreciate  at the school’s hall.
